OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City North had three players score in double figures in a 74-49 rout of Sapulpa in the Class 6A Girls State quarterfinals at Jim Norick Arena.

The Lady Panthers (27-1) sprinted out to a double-digit lead by halftime and used a strong fourth quarter push for the big win.

Junior Kiana Gray scored a game-high 20 points (17 points in the first half) with four rebounds. Gray was 4-of-10 from the 3-point line. She also had four assists and three steals.

“She was she was big for us,” Putnam City North coach Logan Martin said via phone of Gray. “Offensively, she got us going in early.”

Senior Brandie Harrod added 19 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Fellow senior Nykaiya Dillard followed with 14 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Seniors Nini Geretta, Raya Shawareb and sophomore Richiya Miller each scored five points in the win.

Sophomore Demy Howard scored four points and junior Tehlia Kutsoati added a bucket.

Senior Jacklyn Tonkumoh brought down six rebounds for North.

“She’s solid for us,” Martin said of Tonkumoh. “Every time she goes in, she seems to do something positive.”

The Lady Panthers forced 23 Sapulpa turnovers and had 15 steals. North also scored 32 points off Sapulpa turnovers.

North shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and 44 percent for the game. The Lady Panthers also out-rebounded Sapulpa, 43-27. The Lady Panthers dominated in the paint, 48-18.

North struggled again from the free throw line, hitting 5-of-13 from the free throw line.

“(Free throws are) something we talk about the team a lot. We spend a lot of time on it and I’m hoping it would put it together at some point here,” Martin said.

“Really just play our very best basketball we can, playing hard and every possession matters,” Martin said. “Don’t take any possession for granted, it could come down to one.”
