WEATHERFORD – Weatherford scored six runs over two innings late in the game to pull away from Bethany, 11-5, Wednesday (March 5) in a 4A-4 matchup.

The Eagles (1-2, 1-1) had four hits, two walks and took advantage of two errors in the fifth and sixth innings after leading 5-3 going into the bottom half of the fifth.

Bethany (2-1, 1-1) scored a run in the first inning on an RBI-single by senior Joe Berry.

The Bronchos committed two errors in a 3-run second inning for Weatherford, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

In the third inning, Berry doubled to center field, scoring junior Karter Thomas, who walked.

The Eagles took advantage of another Bethany error (one of five for the game) and scored two runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-2.

Bethany senior Charlie Tolle led off the fifth inning with a single to left field and scored on a passed ball to make it 5-3.

Now down 11-3, Senior Levi Moore singled in Berry in the seventh inning and fellow senior Layton Reither reached on a Weatherford error which scored senior Andrew Taber to make it 11-5.

Berry finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Junior Judson Gilliland, Tolle, Taber and Moore each had a hit.

Reither took the loss, pitching five innings and striking out six batters. Senior Brock Cross pitched an inning of relief. Of the 11 runs scored, only one was earned due to the Bethany miscues.

Weatherford senior Camden Pascher and junior Grayson Dunn combined to strike out 14 Bronchos (11 by Pascher).

Bethany travels to 6A Yukon (0-2) Thursday (March 6) at 5 p.m.

The Millers fell to Deer Creek, 8-4, Monday.
