

NORMAN — Putnam City North rallied in the second half to beat Norman North, 36-34, to win the Class 6A West Regional 1 title Saturday (March 1) at Norman North.
North took a 34-33 lead with 1:59 left, on a turnaround jumper from senior Khai Brown, his first points since the first quarter.
The Timberwolves drained the clock to 10 seconds but couldn’t score. Senior Anthony Leonard grabbed the rebound to give the Panthers the ball.
Norman North was forced to foul and Leonard hit two free throws to make it 36-33 with five seconds left.
North sophomore Mekhi Thomas fouled Norman North sophomore Trey Summers in the backcourt. Summers hit 1-of-2 from the line with Leonard again snagging the rebound.
After another foul by Norman North, Leonard hit two more free throws to seal the win.
Thomas scored nine points to lead the Panthers. Thomas scored seven of those points in the third quarter. Leonard and junior Nate Murliithi each followed with six points.
Junior TJ McNeely scored five points and Brown finished with four points.
UP NEXT
Putnam City North meets Moore (19-7) Friday (March 7) in the West Area 2 Championship at Carl Albert. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
The Lions beat crosstown rival Southmoore, 69-45, Saturday.
The winner advances to the Class 6A State Tournament which begins March 11. The loser will have to win against the winner of a contest between regional runner-ups to earn a state berth.
