BETHANY – The Bronchos opened the 2025 season with a 12-4 rout of Putnam City Saturday (March 1).

Bethany designated hitter Andrew Taber went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in. Taber finished just short of the cycle. He singled in a run in the first inning, homered over the right field wall in the third inning and doubled two more runs in the in the fourth inning.

Junior catcher Judson Gilliland went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Gilliland scored three runs and stole two bases.

Senior Brock Cross was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base.

Senior right fielder Charlie Tolle went 1-for-4 with a stolen base. First baseman Joe Berry added a 1-for-3 day. Berry scored two runs scored and an RBI.

Senior Levi Moore added a 1-for-3 days with a double and senior Layton Reither, a recent Southern Nazarene signee, went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Junior Karter Thomas was 0-for-2 but walked twice. Thomas stole a base and scored twice.

In all the Bronchos racked up 10 hits in the win.

Bethany reliever Cooper Willis earned the win after allowing three hits and an earned run in three innings. Willis walked one and struck out three batters.

For Putnam City, junior Henry Thein went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Senior Lukas Poindexter added a 1-for-2 days with a double and run scored.

Pirate center fielder Marcico Petties went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Senior JT Twillie came off the bench and collected a hit.

PC starter Henry Plata took the loss, giving up seven runs and six hits in the three innings. He walked four and struck out one batter.

UP NEXT

Bethany hosts Weatherford Monday (March 3) at 5 p.m. in a 4A-4 matchup.

The Eagles lost to 3A Chisholm, 5-4, Saturday.

Putnam City hosts Capitol Hill Monday at 5 p.m. in a non-district game.

The Red Wolves fell to 5A El Reno, 16-0, Saturday.
