NORMAN — Putnam City North used a strong defense to pull away from Edmond Memorial in the second half for a 41-21 win Friday (Feb. 28) in the Class 6A West Regional at Norman North.

The win ensured the Panthers a berth in the Area playoffs next week and sent them to the Regional title game Saturday.

North (17-8) led 14-11 at halftime before outscoring the Bulldogs 26-10 in the second half. The Panthers held Memorial to single digit scoring in each quarter.

Sophomore Mekhi Thomas led North with 10 points, all in the second half. Senior Anthony Leonard scored all of his seven points in the second half as well.

Senior Khai Brown and junior Malakye Schoats each scored six points in the win. Schoats connected on two 3-pointers.

Edmond Memorial junior Hudson Franz scored a game-high 12 points in the loss.

UP NEXT

Putnam City North faces host Norman North (16-7) Saturday (March 1) at 7 p.m.

The Timberwolves routed Capitol Hill, 89-26, Friday.

The Panthers beat Norman North, 47-43, in overtime Dec. 13 in the semifinals of the Joe Lawson Memorial Tournament.
