EDMOND — Putnam City trailed for nearly three quarters before staging and comeback and then holding off Piedmont, 50-47, Thursday (Feb. 27) in the Class 6A regional playoffs at Edmond Memorial.

The Lady Pirates took their first lead of the game just before the end of the third quarter when senior Tionna Johnson hit a long 3-pointer and Putnam City led, 34-31.

PC built a nine-point lead (41-32) but Piedmont came back to trail 48-47 with :50 left on a putback from senior Rylie Burnett.

The Lady Wildcats were forced to foul but Putnam City senior Paishintz Booker missed both free throws. Piedmont was unable to score and fouled senior Destinee Hunt.

Hunt hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line to make it 49-47. Piedmont turned the ball over on the other end of the floor with :11 left.

Piedmont stole the inbounds pass but Burnett missed a layup and the ball went out of bounds off the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Wildcats couldn’t score and Hunt was fouled fagain. She made 1-of-2 from the line to seal the win.

Hunt came off the bench to get a double-double, with 17 points and 13 rebounds. She was 6-of-14 from the floor. She had two treys in the game.

Fellow senior Kayla Hill added 12 points and eight boards.

Putnam City hit enough free throws to get the win but shot 12-of-27 (43 percent) from the line in the game.

Piedmont senior Rylie Burnett scored a game-high 23 points in her final game for the Lady Wildcats.

UP NEXT

Putnam City (8-12) meets host Edmond Memorial (22-3) Saturday (March 1).

The Lady Bulldogs routed Capitol Hill, 103-9, Thursday.
