YUKON — Putnam City overcame an early deficit with a strong third quarter in a 64-47 win over Yukon Friday (Feb. 14) in a 6A-1 contest.

“Great game overall,” Putnam City coach Brandon Jackson said via text. “We played with good pace and really guarded at a high level.”

The Pirates trailed 26-22 at halftime. Putnam City outscored Yukon 22-13 in the third quarter. The Pirates pulled away and Jackson said,”three big dunks in the second half to really set a tone” for his team.

Jackson said the Pirates didn’t shoot the ball as he had hoped, but were able to turn defensive stops into points in transition.

PC senior Kelton Locke was one four players that scored 12 points each in the win, including sophomore Mar’Quell Robinson, sophomore Miles Jackson, senior JaColby Williams.

“Kelton was able to attack the paint at will and made life easy for the rest of his teammates,” Jackson said.

Sophomore Gabe Osborne scored eight points and senior Johnn Sheffey added seven points.

“Johnn Sheffey was great defensively and finishing around the basket in the fourth quarter,” Jackson said.
