OKLAHOMA COUNTY — Putnam City West opened Deer Creek’s Bruce Gray Tournament with a 67-51 win over 5A Western Heights Thursday (Jan. 23)
“Started out the game really well,” West coach Brian Booker said via text. “We played well on the defensive end for the most part.”
The 6A Patriots (6-8) had three players score in double figures. Junior Quavion Wheeler scored a game-high 19 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter. Junior Damari Coleman added 16, including two 3-pointers. Senior Jordan Kariuki followed with 15 points in the win.
“We have to cut down on the turnovers and missed layups. If we can execute that, I think we will be a dangerous basketball team,” Booker said.
The Jets (6-7) were led by senior Dillon Bullard, who finished with 15 points.
