PURCELL — Bethany bounced back Thursday (Jan. 23) with a 78-10 rout of Santa Fe South Pathways in the opening round of the the Heart of Oklahoma Basketball Tournament.

“Games like today are a good morale booster,” Bethany coach Eri Sailer said via text. “Everyone gets to play. We used our time to work on some new concepts we want to add to our game, which is super beneficial at this stage in the season.”

The Lady Bronchos had five players score in double figures in the win.

Junior Maddison McNutt and sophomore Camryn Regier each scored a game-high 17 points. McNutt was 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including five 3-pointer. She also had three rebounds and two steals.

Regier was 9-of-12 from the field. She also had six rebounds and three steals.

As a team, Bethany shot 51 percent from the field. The Lady Bronchos nailed 11 treys just two days after hitting only one against Newcastle.

“We shot the ball with great confidence today!!!!” Sailer said. “Hopefully, we can continue to shoot that way this week.”

Senior Kayten Donley followed with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Donley had four rebounds, two blocks and four steals.

Sophomore Ali Linn scored 11 points and had three steals. Junior Reese Harris produced 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting with three steals.

Pathways (1-13) hit 4-of-21 from the field (19.1 percent) and had 18 turnovers. In contrast, Bethany had four turnovers in the win.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bronchos meet 5A Elgin (4-7) Friday (Jan. 24)at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.

“We have a huge task at hand with Elgin tomorrow. They have a solid post player who is super efficient in her movements. We will have our hands full trying to keep the ball out of her hands!!” Sailer said.

Elgin beat Byng, 46-32, Thursday.
