OKLAHOMA CITY — Western Heights head football coach Travis Burdine is leaving the school, he told West Metro Sports.

“Me and the AD (Terry Long) are just not on the same vision and path, so it was in his interest to decide that I needed to move on,” Burdine said via text.

Burdine said he has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Mount Saint Mary. Former Western Heights coach J.D. Runnels is the head coach of the Rockets.

Burdine was hired by the school in April. In his lone season with the Jets, Burdine went 1-9 and 0-7 in 5A-2.

Burdine came to Western Heights following a stint at Classen S.A.S.

Western Heights athletic director Terry Long, Jr. did not respond to a request for comment.

HUNT NO LONGER LADY JETS HOOPS COACH

Western Heights girls basketball coach Charles Hunt told West Metro Sports that he is “no longer with the program.”

Before coming to the school, Hunt was the site athletic director and Head Softball Coach at Classen S.A.S. He also served in many other coaching capacities including head jobs in both boys and girls basketball.

Western Heights is currently 1-9 and 1-6 in 5A-2 district play.

Western Heights athletic director Terry Long, Jr. did not respond to a request for comment.
