UPDATE: Bethany’s game with Fort Gibson Friday has now been canceled.

Several West Metro teams saw their events canceled Thursday (Jan. 9) because of snow and winter weather across Oklahoma.

Bethany‘s girls basketball team was the lone team to get on the court, losing to Jenks in the first round of the Lincoln Christian Winter Classic.

Bethany’s boys were scheduled to play Fort Gibson in the same tournament but Fort Gibson was unable to travel. Because of that, Bethany will play Fort Gibson at a time to be announced Friday, most likely in the late afternoon after some of the snow melts.

The rest of the tournament will pause Friday before resuming Saturday. It will finish Monday after another break on Sunday.

Putnam City‘s girls squad was scheduled to meet Westmoore Thursday in the Enid New Year’s Classic. That game was wiped out as well as the Lady Pirates’ Friday matchup with Star Spencer. Organizers say the schedule for Saturday is still being determined. Putnam City was slated to play Moore Saturday.

The Pirate boys had a big matchup Thursday with 3A’s top-ranked team, Millwood, in the ConocoPhillips/ARVEST Invitational at Bartlesville. Because Putnam City is out of school due to the weather Friday, the Pirates won’t travel to Bartlesville.

PC coach Brandon Jackson said they might play Saturday. Unlike the other tournaments, the Bartlesville tournament has been playing with a few teams sitting out.

Putnam City North had both the boys and girls playing against 4A power Douglass in non-tournament games Friday night but that has been wiped out.

“It was going to be a good one,” Panther boys coach DJ Lemons said via text.

Edmond was slated to host Putnam City and Bethany at Mitch Park for a swim meet Thursday, but it was canceled.

Putnam City West‘s swim team were slated to compete in the Casady-Bishop McGuinness Invitational Friday, but that was canceled.

North’s wrestling squad’s also lost chances to compete. The boys were scheduled to be at Jenks for the Larry Wilkey Tournament but it was canceled. The girls were slated to compete in Pauls Valley Friday in the Bryan Scripsick Tournament. Pauls Valley announced that competition might still occur Saturday.
