TULSA — Jenks erased a Bethany lead with a strong fourth quarter en route to a 39-35 win Thursday (Jan. 9) in the first round of the Lincoln Christian Winter Classic.

“Jenks was a very physical team, the officials let us play,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “We turned the ball over way too much today. Jenks is very long and was able to frustrate us.

“At times, we looked good in the first half and then also in the third quarter.”

The Lady Bronchos (6-3) took a 30-23 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Trojans outscored Bethany 16-5 in the final period.

Bethany held the lead until 4:01 left in the game when Jenks freshman Aubrey Odom hit two free throws to the Lady Trojans a 36-35 lead.

The score stayed that way until the final minute when Bethany was forced to foul and Jenks hit three free throws to seal the win.

Sailer said there were lessons in the loss.

“Under pressure in possession basketball, it is important to see the floor and take care of the ball. Also we are learning the first open shot is not always the best shot,” Sailer said.

Bethany senior Kayten Donley scored a game-high 17 points. The senior had five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Donley knocked down three treys.

Sophomore Camryn Regiers added six points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Bronchos struggled shooting the basketball, shooting 29 percent. Bethany also committed 23 turnovers.

Jenks’ Odom scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Odom also grabbed five boards.

Because of the wintry weather across the state, Friday’s games in the Lincoln Christian Winter Classic have been moved to Saturday (Jan. 11).

The Lady Bronchos will play 6A Ponca City (2-7) Saturday at 10 a.m. The Lady Wildcats fell to Owasso, 62-12, Thursday.

After a day off on Sunday, the tournament will conclude Monday (Jan. 13).
