CHICKASHA – Bethany senior Kayten Donley laid the basketball off the glass for a bucket with 1.8 seconds left for the winning bucket Tuesday (Dec. 17), sending the Lady Bronchos to a 53-51 win over Chickasha.

“Kayten is pretty special,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “She willed this team across the finish line.”

Donley’s winning layup came after Chickasha (3-4, 1-2) tied the game at 51-51 with seven second left in the game. Donley sprinted through the Lady Chicks’ full-court press for the score.

Chickasha had a final opportunity to score but the cross court pass didn’t make it before the buzzer, sealing the win for Bethany (3-2, 1-1).

Donley finished with 23 points for the second straight game. The Oral Roberts signee scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to help weather Chickasha’s surge. Donley was 9-of-17 from the field, hit Bethany’s lone 3-pointer, collected four steals and 14 rebounds.

Sophomore Camryn Regier added 13 points, 14 rebounds and seven streals.

“She gave us some energy,” Sailer said of Regier. “Her defense was very helpful in times of need.”

The Lady Bronchos shot for 45 percent from the field inside the 3-point line but were 1-of-16 from beyond the arc.

“Can’t win too many doing that and turning the ball over 17 times,” Sailer said. “That is not a good recipe for success.”

Sailer highlighted Chickasha junior Ashlynn Smith, who led the Chicks with 19 points.

“Defensively (Smith) is a load,” Sailer said. “She was able to carry her team. She even stepped out and made a 3. She is just a junior, so we will have to deal with her another year.”

Sailer said Chickasha junior Mea Ginn “usually scores the ball well from the 3, but tonight she took advantage of some mismatches to score in the paint.” Ginn finished with 10 points.
