ALVA – Bethany senior Kayten Donley almost had a triple-double and the Lady Bronchos won the third place game in the Alva Shootout with a 54-25 win over Cimarron (Kan.) Saturday (Dec. 14).

“Today was a good way for us to finish the tournament,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “We got a lot of learning done this weekend. Now, if we can build on what we started we will be headed in the right direction.”

Donley finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals. The ORU signee hit 8-of-18 from the field in 27 minutes.

“Kayten was the work horse for us this weekend!!!” Sailer said. “She has done a tremendous job of leading this team. She has always led by example, but now she has accepted the challenge to lead vocally too.”

Kayten’s sister, freshman Kamryn Donley, added eight points.

Both sisters were named to the All-Tournament team.

Junior Madison Bibbs scored all six of her points in the second half after struggling Friday against Deer Creek.

“She did not allow one mediocre game get her down. She came out and made an impact quickly,” Sailer said of Bibbs, who finished 3-of-3 from the field and grabbed six offensive boards.

“Today was not our best shooting day, but we played really well defensively,” Sailer said.

Bethany (2-2) shot 30 percent from the field and 20 percent (5-of-25 from beyond the arc). However, the Lady Bronchos collected 19 steals. Cimarron (1-3) shot 26 percent and turned the ball over 28 times.

The fifth-ranked Lady Bronchos (2-2, 0-1) return to Western Athletic Conference play, traveling to Chickasha Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Chicks (3-3, 1-1) beat host Duncan Thursday (Dec. 12) in the first round of the Southern Oklahoma Invitational. Chickasha followed with losses to 6A schools Moore and Lawton Eisenhower in the tournament.
