Putnam City returns a core group of players in Porsche’ Young’s second year as coach of the Lady Pirates.

Original was 10-15 a season ago and exited in the 6A regional round.

Young believes last season was “about setting the foundation” of where her program and players “want to be in the future.”

“Growing pains happened last year, but overall we seen an improvement from a 3-21 record to 10-15 the next,” Young said via preseason questionnaire. “We are not satisfied with the achievements but know it was a sign of a positive direction for our program.”

Young expects her team to “make some noise” in district play this season, an area in which the team struggled a year ago.

“I preach playing with pride, execution, and a mentality of never giving up,” Young said. “I strive to speak life in my players and hope they believe that we can achieve our highest potential if they understand what being committed to program takes you.”

“Look out for the Lady Pirates!” said Young, who played for Putnam City from 2006-2010. “I am also an alumni that played at Putnam City during the years of 2006-2010. “I achieved many accolades from playing here. I am excited about being home and making an impact at Putnam City.”

The Lady Pirates open the 2024-2025 season Tuesday (Dec. 3) at home against Southmoore (4-20 last season). Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
