
FRISCO, Texas – Putnam City North opened the season with two wins over Texas opponents Friday and Saturday (Nov. 22-23) in “The Matchup” at Prosper Rock Hill High School.
FRIDAY: PUTNAM CITY NORTH 57, DUNCANVILLE (TEXAS) 51 (OT)
The Lady Panthers knocked off Texas 6A defending state champion Duncanville, 57-51, in overtime.
Senior Brandie Harrod, who played at Millwood last year, led North with 17 points. Fellow senior Nykaiya Dillard added 13 points.
Junior Kiana Gray, who played at Putnam City West last year, had 11 points with three treys (two of which came in overtime). Another senior, Nini Geretta, scored eight points with two 3-pointers in the first half.
Sophomore Richiya Miller added four points. Seniors Raya Shawareb and Jacklyn Tonkumoh each scored two points.
SATURDAY: PUTNAM CITY NORTH 59, LEGION PREP (TEXAS) 44
North capped the weekend off in north Texas with a double-digit win.
Harrod scored 14 points with seven rebounds. Dillard followed with 11 points and five rebounds.
Geretta produced nine points, six rebounds and five steals. Gray had six points, five assists and four steals.
UP NEXT
North, 21-7 and a state qualifier last season, opens 6A-2 play Dec. 3 at home against Piedmont. The Lady Cats finished 12-15 last season, falling in the Area Tournament.
Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
