OKLAHOMA CITY – El Reno shut out Western Heights, 48-0, Friday (Nov. 8) to finish out the regular season for both teams in a 5A-2 contest.
Senior Lathen Pruitt scored twice on the ground and fellow senior Daylin Pruitt added another touchdown in the rout.
The Jets finish the season at 1-9 and 0-6 in district play in their return to 5A football after playing an independent schedule last season.
“This season wasn’t won on the field by points. But, we won the morale and confidence battle,” Western Heights coach Travis Burdine said via text. “I’ve seen these guys fight game after game with low number due to injuries and never gave up. Each day they showed up to practice with a positive attitude and a determination mindset to get better. That’s all I could ask for from them.”
Burdine said he knew the challenges that came with the job at Western Heights. The team lost 14 players in a season due to injuries, depleting the roster.
“We had to adapt by playing some young men in position they weren’t ready for physically or mentally. But that’s always good when you’re building because those young men get forged by fire and will be ready in the upcoming seasons,” Burdine said.
Burdine told his team after the game to get ready for the football offseason to begin Monday.
He also praised the senior class.
“The seniors set them up for a great 2025 season by forcing them to get better and step up. Now, it’s their time to keep the torch burning and focus on the future of Western Heights Football,” Burdine said.
Burdine said his squad will be young against next year, but he is excited about the group.
“Energy is high and morale is lifted and they want to get better in the weight room and in the classroom, learning more football knowledge.”
