For the second straight season, Putnam City will host a 6A-II playoff game.

“That’s the expectation,” Putnam City coach Willis Alexander said via phone. “That should be the standard.”

The Pirates (6-3, 4-2)could finish third in the 6A-II-1 with a win over Piedmont (5-4, 3-3) Friday (Nov. 8). PC could also finish third with a loss by less than seven points to the Wildcat with a Southmoore win.

The Pirates follow Choctaw and Stillwater in the standings, the two teams with district win over the Pirates.

SLOAN CARRIES BIG WORKLOAD

Junior Rodgerick Sloan rushed for 157 yard on 31 carries last Friday (Nov. 1) in the Pirates’ win over Southmoore. Sloan also scored once.

Sophomore quarterback Denymn Friday completed 13-of-21 for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Friday also threw three interceptions in the win.

Junior Visanio Boyd, Jr. was Friday’s biggest target with eight catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. Fellow junior Savion James had a quiet night with two catches for 32 yards. James did have a touchdown catch.

Junior Thomas Stone had one catch, It was a key one-handed catch for a 26-yard gain.

Senior Brayden Knox led the team with 18 tackles, nine tackles for loss and five sacks. Fellow senior Mykel Ford had 10 tackles. Another senior, Johnn Sheffey, had nine tackles, four for a loss and three sacks.

Three players had seven sacks each, including juniors Tripp Alexander, DJ Ackerson and sophomore Keandre Huffman.

In all, the Pirates had 25 tackles for loss and 16 sacks.

“(The defensive line) just able to kind of beat their man,” Alexander said.. “They were able to control the line of scrimmage. They were really able to control things.”

NEXT OPPONENT: Piedmont

The Pirates finish the regular season at Piedmont. The Wildcats have lost two straight games after a 49-7 loss at Stillwater last Thursday (Oct. 31).

Piedmont is primarily a rushing team, averaging 261 yards a contest. Senior Jayden Fuston has rushed for 1,114 yards and 10 touchdowns.

For the season, junior quarterback Grayson May has passed for 493 yards and 11 touchdowns.
