BETHANY – Broncho senior Wyatt Geissler broke the school record for touchdown catches in a career in Bethany’s 48-7 blowout win over Tecumseh Friday (Nov. 1) in a 4A-2 matchup.
Geissler broke the record set by Ben Lawson, who played for the Bronchos from 2016-2019, graduating in 2020.
“it’s huge. I mean, it just goes to show you he’s been really good for us from the sophomore year. He played a bunch of receiver for us as a sophomore, had a good year last year and then has more touchdowns this year than a year ago.”
Bethany struck first when junior Judson Gilliland sprinted 47-yards through the Savage defense for a score with 9:44 left in the first quarter.
Junior Evenson Malaska gave the Bronchos a short field with an interception on the next possession.
On the next play, senior Jackie Payne connected over the top with Geissler for a 32-yard completion down to the Tecumseh 2-yard line.
Gilliland took a direct snap and pitched it to Geissler and Bethany led 14-0 with 7:30 left in the first quarter.
The Bronchos got good field position again after senior Brock Cross returned a Tecumseh punt 34 yards to the Tecumseh 32-yard line.
The short field led to Payne’s first touchdown pass, a 25-yard strike to Cross with 2:43 left in the first quarter.
On the next possession, Gilliland added a defensive touchdown, intercepting Tecumseh senior Hollin Barnes with a one-handed grab. He returned it 21 yards for a touchdown and Bethany led, 27-0, with 1:44 left in the opening quarter.
Gilliland scored again after a Tecumseh punt, taking the first play 47 yards for another touchdown to stretch the lead to 34-0 with 8:33 left in the second quarter.
Senior Jackson Dull got into the act on the next Bethany possession with a 44-yard run to the Tecumseh 27-yard line. That led to Payne hitting senior Garrett Johnson over the middle for a 24-yard touchdown strike with 3:50 left before halftime.
The second half featured a running clock due to the lopsided score. The Bronchos got a lot of reserves in the game. Bethany scored one more time when sophomore Brody McLaren connected with junior Jagger Weaver on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Bethany led, 48-0, with 6:58 left in the third quarter.
Tecumseh averted the shutout, using a majority of the fourth quarter on a touchdown drive. The drive was capped off by a 14-yard run by senior Traveon Mays.

“Regardless of who the opponent is, we’ve got to make sure we’re better at the end of the game next Friday night if we want to be where we want to come to playoffs and week 11 and beyond,” Arthur said. “We certainly have to take advantage of every day we get to practice and get better.”
