BARTLESVILLE – Putnam City West dropped a 40-9 contest to Bartlesville Friday (Nov. 1) in a 6A-II-2 game.

The Bruins scored first after a lengthy drive, capped off by a 1-yard run by junior Sutton Williams.

On the ensuing kickoff, Patriot junior Xavier Farrar took a deep onside kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked and Bartlesville had a 7-6 lead with 7:47 left in the opening quarter.

Bruin sophomore Evan Goad returned the kickoff 45 yards to give Bartlesville good field position. This led to a 38-yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Michael Kent to make it 14-6.

Bartlesville scored two touchdowns and had a field goal in the second quarter and the rout was on.

West got a 30-yard field goal from senior Brandon Garcia to make it 31-9.

Bartlesville pinned West at its 1-yard line with :09 left before halftime, sophomore James Jansen was sacked in the end zone for a safety to extend the Bruins lead to 33-9.

The Bruins’ Williams scored one more time, on a 1-yard run with 2:05 left in the third quarter to cap the scoring.
