Against an overmatched U.S. Grant squad, Putnam City played its part with 359 yards of total offense in a 56-6 rout of the Generals Friday (Oct. 18).

Sophomore Denymn Friday completed 9-of-10 for 193 yards with three touchdowns. Junior Joshua Lombard played in relief and competed the only pass he threw for a 17 yard score.

Junior Savion James caught three passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Junior Rodgerick Sloan added two touchdown catches for 56 yards.

The Pirates got some new names involved against the Generals. Senior Dom Williams had two catches for 30 yards. Junior Thomas Stone added a 21-yard reception. Senior JT Twillie had a 17-yard catch.

On the ground, sophomore LaDarren Shoals gained 94 yards and scored twice on eight carries. Senior Marqucio Woody also carried the ball eight times. He gained 33 yards and scored once. Sloan added two carries and 17 yards. He also scored once. Finally, Lombard had a quarterback run for five yards.

On defense, the Pirates had 17 tackles for loss against Grant. Of that total, four came from junior Tripp Alexander and three from senior Michael Exum.

Junior DJ Ackerson led the PC defense with seven tackles. Senior Johnn Sheffey added six tackles. Senior Cayden Hatlelid produced five tackles.

Alexander, Exum and senior Nathan Brown each four tackles. Senior Brayden Knox, sophomore Jordon Billingslea and junior Johnnie Efferson each had three tackles in the win.

PC RANKS IN OFFENSE AND DEFENSE

The Pirates are 11th in all of 6A in offensive yards per game with 253 in statistics compiled by the website, IWasAtTheGame.com. They are also 11th in points per game (36.1).

The Pirate defense comes in fourth, allowing an average of 107 yards a contest. That defense is also fourth with 15.3 points allowed a game. That makes Putnam City’s point differential +20.8, good for sixth in 6A.

NEXT OPPONENT: Stillwater

The Pirates (5-2, 3-1) host 6A-II power Stillwater Friday (Oct. 25). The Pioneers (5-2, 3-1) fell to 6A-II-1 leader Choctaw, 35-28, Thursday (Oct. 17).

Stillwater knocked Putnam City out of the playoffs last season in the quarterfinals, 56-7, before going on to the title game before losing to Muskogee.

To date, the Pirates’ only district loss is to Choctaw. Original is in a three-way tie for second by record with Stillwater and Piedmont (who the Pirates finish the regular season with on the road).
