
SAPULPA – Sapulpa was too much for Putnam City West in a 58-0 rout Friday (Oct. 11) in a 6A-II-2 game.
The Patriots forced a three-and-out on the first drive. But, the West offense couldn’t move the ball. A fumbled snap was recovered by Sapulpa senior defensive end Isaac Shelton at the Patriot 18-yard line.
Again, the West defense pushed Sapulpa backwards. But, Chieftain senior Rashaud Reynolds scored on a 30-yard touchdown run with 8:00 left in the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, West got a 46-yard kickoff return to start the drive at the Sapulpa 27-yard line.
West moved backward and sophomore Kahmi Herrera Hawk was intercepted by Chieftain senior Dakota Chaney. That led to Reynolds catching a 40-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Braddox Broughton.
Sapulpa got the ball back on an interception by junior Jayce Mcintosh. That led to a 34-yard touchdown from Broughton to senior Future Ledbetter with 1:33 left in the opening quarter.
After West failed to move the ball, Sapulpa added its second score on the ground when junior Levi Jensen ran 33 yards for a touchdown, dragging defenders for 10 yards into the end zone.
West continued to struggle on the next possession. A pass to the flats went backwards and was recovered by the Patriots at 1-yard line.
That led to a pass caught in the end zone by a West receiver who was tackled by Chieftain junior Sequoyah Hall in the end zone for a safety to make it 30-0 with 8:23 left before halftime.
The ensuing kickoff was returned by the Chieftains to the West 33-yard line.
Sapulpa drove to the goal line before West got a turnover. Junior Xavier Farrar recovered a fumble in the end zone to end the scoring threat.
The Patriots couldn’t move the ball and a short punt gave Sapulpa a short field again.
After a completion by the Chieftains’ AJ Moton was fumbled at the goal line, Sapulpa senior Jordan Clark recovered it for a touchdown to make it 37-0 with 3:25 before halftime.
Sapulpa got the ball one more time before halftime after a blocked punt. The short field led to another Sapulpa score from Broughton to Ledbetter, this time a 5-yard score with :19 left in the half.
Sapulpa scored two more times in the second half with a running clock. Senior Blake Hurt scored on a 49-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The Chieftains added another touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Putnam City West (1-5, 0-3) hosts Sand Springs (4-2, 3-0) in another 6A-II-2 matchup Thursday (Oct. 17).
