WARR ACRES – Putnam City’s sophomore Denymn Friday and junior Savion James connected three times for scores in the Pirates’ 35-7 win over Lawton Eisenhower Friday (Oct. 11) in 6A-II-1 action.

After the Eagles had a 1st-and-goal at the Putnam City 12-yard line, the Pirate defense got a takeaway. Senior Sy Phipps stripped the Ike ball carrier and sprinted to the Eagle 26-yard line.

On the next play, Friday connected with James for a touchdown with 9:59 left in the first quarter.

Ike answered on the next series when senior Charlie Trachte connected with fellow senior Serri Sheridan, who sprinted past the Pirate secondary for 78-yard pass play.

Trachte followed with a one-yard run to tie the game at 14-14.

The Pirates lost a potential touchdown when Friday hit James on a crossing pattern but James fumbled the ball into the end zone where it was recovered by Ike for a touchback.

The Putnam City defense forced a punt and this time the Pirates cashed in. James caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Friday, leaping over the defender for the score.

Putnam City made it a two-touchdown lead when Friday hit senior Demarion Ridley with a 12-yard score with :36 before halftime.

The Pirates got the football after the intermission and embarked on a drive that lasted over seven minutes. PC capped the drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Friday to junior Rodgerick Sloan with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

After Ike went three-and-out, the Pirates capped off the quarter with another score. Friday connected with James again for the final score of the game, this time from 15 yards out to make it 35-7 with :43 left in the third quarter.

UP NEXT

Putnam City (4-2, 2-1) travels to U.S. Grant (0-6, 0-3) next Friday (Oct. 18). Piedmont routed the General last Friday (Oct. 11), 62-0.
