OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North set a school record in its homecoming 70-0 rout of Capitol Hill Friday (Oct. 11) in a 6A-II-2 contest.

The point total eclipsed a 69-3 win over U.S. Grant in 2021. In 2023, North beat the same Capitol Hill team, 62-0.

For Panther coach Derek Lane, his players’ effort was important than the score.

“I think they played hard. They did exactly like what we asked them to do,” Land said via phone. “Just play every snap hard and don’t worry about the score, don’t worry about the opponent.

“Just do your job and just give championship effort each snap and I think they did that.”

Defense and special teams helped build a big lead in the first half.

Senior Kameron Oliver ran back two punts for touchdowns and caught a screen pass for another score in the win.

Fellow senior Kyran Axtell added a scoop-and-score fumble return for a touchdown.

In the second half, the North offense got into the act with a running clock because of the score. Several reserve and junior varsity players got playing time due to the circumstance.

“I think it’s big just because we tell the kids all the time that you’re always just one play away from being a starter,” Lane said. “So for them to be able to get some Friday night game experience, I think it’s gonna ultimately help us later on down the road.”
