OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North got just enough offense in a 2-0 shutout of 5A Shawnee Tuesday (Sept. 24).

North took the lead in the third inning. Senior Raya Shawareb reached on an infield error and advanced to second. She scored on a single by fellow senior Monica Coats.

In the sixth, senior Aubrey Miller doubled to left field. Freshman Kayleigh Andrews doubled her home to extend the lead to 2-0.

“Our offense had the hits when we needed it and they didn’t get down because the pitcher from Shawnee can play,” Putnam City North coach D’Antae Mitchell said via text.

“She is someone we needed to see heading into regionals.”

Shawnee starter Nana Martin struck out five in the loss.

In the circle for North, Miller got the win. She allowed four hits and struck out one batter. Senior Angel Franklin pitched two hitless innings in relief for the save. Franklin struck out five batters.

“Aubrey Miller and Angel Franklin did an awesome job in the circle for us today,” Mitchell said. “I feel like we made the plays today that we haven’t been making and the girls definitely bounced back from the bad defensive day we had last night.”
