OKLAHOMA CITY – Western Heights held off a late U.S. Grant rally to beat the Lady Generals, 8-6, Friday (Sept. 20).

The Lady Jets produced 10 hits in the win.

Western Heights sprinted out to an 5-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lady Jets got triples from Aracena Martin and Makayla Brown with a home run from Jasmine Frye.

U.S. Grant added two runs each in the first and second innings to make it a 5-4 game.

In the the fourth, Abi Bise reached on a fielder’s choice. Senior Ionia Howell followed with a two-out walk. Bise scored on single from Martin. Howell scored on an error to make it 8-4.

Grant added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull within two runs, 8-6.

Jalesa Asimba worked around a single in the sixth inning to earn the win. Asimba struck out six batters, scattering eight hits. Of the six runs she allowed, only two were earned runs.

At the plate, Bise and Martin each went 2-for-4 in the win. The Jets took advantage of five Grant walks.

The Lady Jets (7-12) stay on the road with a non-district doubleheader at Capitol Hill Monday (Sept. 23). First pitch is at 5 p.m.
