OKLAHOMA CITY – Western Heights picked up its first two District 4A-2 wins with two walk offs of Anadarko (including one in extra innings) Thursday (Sept. 12).

WESTERN HEIGHTS 6, ANADARKO 5 (8 INN.)

The teams played to a 3-3 tie after six innings. The Lady Warriors took a 5-3 lead in the seventh on a single and two doubles.

With two outs in the bottom half of the seventh, Jasmine Frye reached on an infield error, scoring Abbie Bise and Ionia Howell to tie the game at 5-5.

Jalesa Asimba worked around a one-out single in the eighth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Yazmine Howell led off with a single and reached second on an error. Asimba doubled to left field, scoring Howell for the win.

Asimba went 2-for-5 on the day. Howell was 2-for-4.

Asimba pitched all eight innings, scattering nine hits. Of the five runs she allowed, two were earned. Asimba walked two batters and struck out two.

WESTERN HEIGHTS 7, ANADARKO 6

The late-inning heroics in the second game after Anadarko built a 6-1 lead over the first five innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Jets plated four runs. Howell singled. Emelyn Ordonez followed with a walk. Hannah Parker singled and Howell scored on an error. After Asimba walked, Bise doubled to center field. This cleared the bases and cut the deficit to 6-5.

Asimba, pitching in relief, worked around two errors in the top of the sixth inning to hold the Lady Warriors scoreless.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Makayla Brown tripled to left field. Howell tied the game with a single to center.

In the top of the seventh, Asima dealt with base runners. Anadarko got two runners on by a single and an error. Asimba got a fly out and two strikeouts to keep it a tie game.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Aracena Martin reached on an infield error. She moved to second on a groundout and to third on a single by Brown.

Howell singled to right to drive in the winning run for the walk off win.

Bise finished 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Howell added a 3-for-4 day with two RBIs. Brown went 2-for-4. The Lady Jets hammered 12 hits in the win.

Abby Spitler picked up the no-decision, scattering six hits in five inning. She walked seven batters. Asimba got the win in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two batters.

UP NEXT

The Lady Jets (6-8, 2-6) travel to Marlow (7-16, 0-7) for another 4A-2 doubleheader Monday (Sept. 16). First pitch is at 5 p.m.
