BETHANY – The Lady Bronchos vaulted to second place in District 4A-1 with their fourth straight win, a 10-3 rout of Kingfisher Thursday (Sept. 12).

With the win, Bethany (12-12, 6-3) sits behind Weatherford (15-1, 8-1). Each team has three district games left. Weatherford won both of its district games against the Lady Bronchos this season.

Against Kingfisher, the rout was in doubt in the top of the fourth inning. Leading 4-0, Bethany saw its lead shrink to a lone run. The Lady Yellowjackets scored three runs, keyed by two-run home run by Lily Voth.

The Lady Bronchos got all three runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Ireland Riley and junior Madison Bibbs each singled. Sophomore Jules Barger brought both of them home on a double to center field.

Barger later scored on a infield error on a ground ball hit by junior Paige Sechrist to make it 7-3.

It was a similar situation in the fifth. Riley and Bibbs singled. Barger drove them in on a double to center. Barger scored on a ground ball error on a ball hit by junior Emma Buxton to make it 10-3.

Riley went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Barger added a 4-for-4 day with three doubles and four runs batted in.

“They set the pace for us offensively everyday,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said about Riley and Barger via text. “We did a good job putting pressure on (Kingfisher) and took advantage of opportunities.”

Bibbs went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore Grey Williamson finished 2-for-3.

In all, six Lady Bronchos got a hit as the team smacked 14 hits.

Outside of the three runs in the fourth, Sechrist held Kingfisher in check, scattering nine hits in a complete game outing. Sechrist didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.

This stretch of important district games continues Monday (Sept. 16) when Bethany hosts Elk City (15-2, 5-2). First pitch is at 5 p.m.
