OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North opened up a tight opener with Shawnee in the second half, cruising to a 35-3 win Friday (Sept. 5).

The Panthers got one score in the first and second quarters.

Freshman Jonnas Stinson-Powers intercepted an overthrown pass from Shawnee junior Zyron Campbell, taking it down the North sideline for the game’s first score.

With 1:15 before halftime, North punched it in again. The scoring drive was highlighted by a 36-yard connection between North junior quarterback Mason Jones and senior receiver Lewis Moreland.

Helped out by a Shawnee facemask penalty, Jones found fellow junior Marshall Bennett for a reception at the 1-yard-line. Senior Milton Alford scored and North held a 12-0 lead at half.

The Panthers scored on the first drive after halftime with a steady of Alford on the ground. Senior Kameron Oliver caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jones top cap the drive with 10:20 left in the third quarter.

Shawnee senior Rhett Neese connected with a 31-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 19-3 at the 4:07 mark.

Just over a minute later, North scored again. A Shawnee late-hit penalty on third down kept the drive alive for North. On the next play, Jones hit senior Jakorey Locke over the middle for a 27-yard score.

North got two more scores early in the fourth quarter. Alford scored from 25 yards out and Shawnee senior punter Lance Williams booted a snap out of the backside of the end zone for a safety.

Putnam City North travels to rival Putnam City next Friday (Sept. 13) for the “Battle of the Expressway.” Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
