OKLAHOMA CITY – Bethany scored four times in the first quarter en route to a 44-6 rout of John Marshall Friday (Sept. 6) at Taft Stadium.

The Bronchos scored early and often. Senior quarterback Jackie Payne started the onslaught with an 11-yard touchdown run.

Junior Judson Gilliland added a 46 yard run. On the run up the middle, Gilliland looked like he would stopped for a short gain at the 6:16 mark. He broke three tackles to sprint towards the goal line, stiff arming a the last Bear defender before he got to the end zone.

Gilliland added a five-yard run to make it 20-0.

Finally, the Bethany defense got into the act. Sophomore Wyatt Keefer took an interception back 26 yards for a score to make it 26-0.

In the second quarter, the Bethany special teams added points. A low snap on a John Marshall punt led to senior Jackson Dull wrapping up the punter in the end zone for a safety to make it 28-0.

The Bronchos would score two more times before halftime. Payne connected with senior Wyatt Geissler for a 28-yard score and junior Griffin Tarrant booted a 41-yard field goal.

In the second half, Gilliland scored on a two-yard run to make it 44-0. After that, reserves played with the game not in doubt.

Gilliland had 11 carries for 109 yards and three scores. Payne was efficient, completing 7-of-10 for 101 yards and a touchdown in the air and another on the ground. Geissler has two of those receptions for 34 yards and a score.

The Bronchos’ long road adventure continues next Friday (Sept. 13) at 2A Jones (2-0). The Longhorns have two shutouts in the early season. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
