OKLAHOMA CITY – Western Heights rode a five-run first inning to an early lead, lost the lead but persevered to beat Mount Saint Mary, 8-6, Friday (Sept. 6) in a non-district game.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the first, the Lady Jets plated five runs, keyed by Makayla Brown’s three-run triple to center field.
The Rockets tied the game in the third inning with two runs.
In the fourth inning, Western Heights took the lead for good. Abbie Bise scored on a wild pitch and Ionia Howell stole home to make it 7-5.
Mount Saint Mary made it a one-run game with a run in the fifth. Jalesa Asimba doubled and later stole home to increase the lead to 8-6.
Asimba went 3-for-4 at the plate and earned the win on the mound. She pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs and scattering seven hits.
