BETHANY – The Lady Bronchos’ bats went silent and Weatherford beat Bethany, 8-2, Tuesday (Sept. 3) for Bethany’s third loss to the Lady Eagles this season.

“We had a few opportunities but didn’t cash in on them,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said. “We have to do that against teams the level of Weatherford.”

Bethany fell to Weatherford in the I-40 Classic Aug. 16 and lost a 4A-1 matchup Friday (Aug. 30) to the top team in the district.

The Lady Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a single and two doubles. Bethany got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore Jules Barger doubled to center field, scoring junior Madison Bibbs (who had been hit by a pitch).

That was Bethany’s only hit of the game but the Lady Bronchos had other chances.

In the second inning, junior Berkley Johnson was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Ella Davis sacrificed her second. Two errors put Davis on base and moved Johnson to third. Junior Emma Buxton drove in Johnson with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 2-2.

Weatherford score two runs in both the third and fourth innings and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.

Bethany got baserunners in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but a double play ended the threat in each inning.

Bethany (6-11) hosts the Bethany tournament Thursday (Sept. 5) and Saturday (Sept. 7). On Thursday, the Lady Bronchos play Bishop McGuinness at 10 a.m. and Pauls Valley at 11:30 a.m.
