WARR ACRES – In the 26-16 loss to Yukon Friday (Aug. 30), Putnam City struggled with consistency on offense. The Pirates had 234 yards of total offense while the Millers countered with 352 yards.

Newcomer Joshua Lombard, a junior who transferred from Putnam City North, went 5-of-14 for 42 yards with an interception. Sophomore Denymn Friday, who was inserted in the lineup for a few series, was 2-for-3 for 77 yards and a score. The bulk of Friday’s yards came on a 74-yard scoring connection with junior Savion James.

That catch was James’ only catch of the game. Sophomore Gabriel Osborne caught one pass for 40 yards.

On the ground, junior Rodgerick Sloan rushed 18 times for 68 yards. Lombard added 40 yards on seven carries.

Both teams struggled with penalties. The Pirates were whistled 11 times for 87 yards while Yukon had eight accepted penalties for 69 yards.

Putnam City lost the turnover batter, 3-2.

On defense, Johnn Sheffey had nine tackles and fellow seniors Brayden Knox and Michael Exum each added eight. Knox added two sacks and two hurries. Juniors DJ Ackerson, Keelan Johnson and Tripp Alexander each had a sack in the loss.

Sheffey and Exum each had interceptions in the game.

Yukon senior quarterback Carter Creach finished 15-of-26 for 183 yards and those two picks.

Yukon’s combo of senior Logan McKenzie and junior Destry Lujan proved effective in the second half. Each back had a touchdown run. McKenzie rushed 11 times for 67 yards and Lujan added nine carries for 59 yards. Creach added 43 yards on the ground.

Yukon had three receivers go over 50 yards (seniors Bayler Weaver, Lucas Jones and Kenison Rogers).
