BETHANY – The Lady Bronchos used strong pitching and timely hitting for a 8-1 win over Mount Saint Mary in a 4A District 1 contest Tuesday (Aug. 27).

Bethany loaded the bases in the first inning on three walks. After two strikeouts, sophomore Ella Davis popped up in the infield but second baseman Maddie Biswell dropped it, scoring senior Ireland Riley and junior Madison Bibbs.

Three singles in the second inning led to another run for the Lady Bronchos as sophomore Emma Geissler scored on a bloop single by Bibbs to make it 3-0.

In the third inning, Bethany took advantage of a pair of walks from Mount Saint Mary pitcher Maddie Jones (who walked seven overall). Junior Emma Buxton laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving the runners over and a single to center from junior Berkley Johnson scored sophomores Grey Williamson and Emma Davis. Johnson scored on a double to left field by Riley.

The Rockets got a run in the fourth inning, taking advantage of two Bethany errors, making it 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Buxton tripled to right field and scored on a single by Johnson. A single by Bibbs scored Johnson to make it 8-1.

Riley went 2-for-2 and junior Berkley Johnson went 2-for-4, driving in three runs in the win.

Junior Paige Sechrist scattered five hits over four innings, allowing an unearned run. Seachrist struck out five batters. Fellow junior Jayda Davis allowed two hits in three innings, striking out two.

Bethany (6-9, 3-1) travels to Weatherford (7-1, 1-1) Friday (Aug. 30) for another district matchup. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
