WARR ACRES – Putnam City sophomore Tessa Goodner went 3-for-3 and homered but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Pirates, who fell behind early in an 11-1 loss to Edmond Santa Fe Thursday (Aug. 22) in a Class 6A District 3 contest.

The Lady Wolves took advantage of four Putnam City errors and smacked 14 hits in the contest. Santa Fe built a big lead early with three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second.

Goodner hit her second home run of the season with a fly ball over the left field with two outs in the third inning,

“Tessa is absolutely one of the top dawgs on this team,” Putnam City coach Brooklyn Sparkman said via text. “That’s why she is one of three team captains as a SOPHOMORE!”

Sparkman said the four Putnam City errors made a difference

“Defense wins ball games.” Sparkman said.

PC sophomore starter Maece Bourbonnais gave up 11 runs but only four of the runs were earned due to the errors. Bourbonnais struck out five batters.

Bourbonnais and fellow sophomore Madi Gossman each had a single. The Lady Pirates had runners on base each inning.

Sparkman pointed to her sophomore-heavy squad and said she is seeing improvement.

“They are learning and growing their game every single day. We are slowing putting things together and this group has a bright future!!” Sparkman said.
