OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City’s Kailyn Bratton and Putnam City West’s Jazzlin Brown battled it out in two events during the first day of the Class 6A State Girls Track Meet at Western Heights Friday (May 10).
Bratton, a freshman, had the top time in the preliminary races of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.84. Brown, a junior, also qualified for the finals with a time 12.11, finishing sixth.
In the 200-meter dash, Bratton finished on top after the prelims with a 24.35 time. Brown finished third with 24.88.
In other prelim action, the Putnam City West’s 4×100-meter relay team just missed qualifying with a time of 48.90, good for ninth. Lawton Eisenhower was the last qualifier for Saturday’s finals with a time of 48.60. The West relay team is made up of Jayla Constant, Delandria Grant, Caya Smith and Brown.
Putnam City North sophomore Maddison Keeton just missed qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles event. Keeton finished the event in 15.38 just behind Broken Arrow sophomore Autumn Mundis who was the last qualifier at 15.33.
West’s Smith, a senior, finished second in the finals of the High Jump event. Both Smith and Jenks senior Jill Twiehaus jumped 5’6″ but Twiehaus took first by virtue of fewer misses at that height.
Putnam City North senior Trinity Smith competed in the high jump event but did not reach the base height in her attempts.
Putnam City’s 4×200-meter relay team took 10th place in the finals of the event with a time of 1:43.94. The team consists of Jayla Carter, Michaela Amoah, Makayla Ridley and Ngozi Offiaeli. Putnam City West’s relay team event in that event was a scratch. The West relay team is Constant, Grant, Smith and Brown.
After the first day of competition, West is 15th in the team competition with eight points.
