OKLAHOMA CITY – Western Heights swept a doubleheader from U.S. Grant Monday (April 15) in Class 5A District 1 action.
GAME 1: WESTERN HEIGHTS 14, U.S. GRANT 3
The Generals’ 3-1 lead in the third inning disappeared after the Jets exploded for 13 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Western Heights pounded eight hits in the inning, getting help from two U.S. Grant errors, three walks and a hit batsman.
Juniors A’mi Avelar and Kole Schrock each went 2-for-3 in the win. Avelar drove in three runs while Schrock drove in two.
Another junior, Jacob Bohnstedt, struck out nine batters in four innings of work, allowing three hits and a walk.
GAME 2: WESTERN HEIGHTS 7, U.S. GRANT 5
The Jets had a tighter finish in the second contest.
Western Heights scored three runs in the third inning on two hits, two hit batsmen, a steal of home by junior Kipp Davis and a wild pitch.
The Jets added two more runs in the fourth on another hit batter, a double by Bohnstedt and a General error.
Junior Jake Bogle went 2-for-3 with a double, driving in a run. Avelar finished 1-for-2 and Bohnstedt went 1-for-3 in the win. Sophomore Parker Kronk added a 1-for-2 performance.
Schrock and Avelar combined to scatter five hits and strike out five batters.
