KINGFISHER – Putnam City West shut out host Kingfisher, 4-0, to win the The Shed Classic Saturday (April 6).

The Patriots went 4-0 in the tournament, beating Weatherford and El Reno Thursday and the El Reno JV Friday.

West (6-10, 0-8 in Class 6A District 1) got just enough offense while starter senior Jaxon Hyde-Herrera allowed only one hit, striking out 10 batters in five innings.

In the third inning, senior Kevin Saucedo doubled to right field and scored on a passed ball. Fellow senior Sam Hernandez doubled to left then scored on a single to right from sophomore Jayvn Mitchell to make it 2-0.

Back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth inning by junior Nathan Vann and senior Rico Hamilton led to two more runs thanks to a Kingfisher error and groundout by senior John Rolling.

Hamilton finished the day 2-for-3.

UP NEXT: The Patriots return to district play Monday (April 8) hosting Norman at 5 p.m. The Tigers return the favor Tuesday.
