
OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North junior Markus Stewart became a two-time state qualifier in wrestling after finishing third at the 6A West Regional tournament at Westmoore High School Feb. 16-17.
Stewart earned the third place finish in the 190-pound class by beating Piedmont junior Jackson Blackburn with a fall at 4:54.
Stewart improved to 25-5 with the win..
The Panthers finished tenth overall, with four individual placers. Jaaziel Benman (106), Devon Frazier (128) and Ryan Gooch (175) – who all finished sixth in their respective weight classes.
Stewart will meet Stillwater’s Parker Brown (19-8) in the first round of the state tournament. Brown finished second in the 6A East Regional.
The tournament starts Thursday (Feb. 22) at Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
