OKLAHOMA CITY – If Putnam City West’s final regular season game was a tuneup for the playoffs, the Lady Patriots seem to be ready for the big stage. West routed Westmoore, 74-29 Tuesday (Feb. 13).
The Lady Patriots (21-1, 13-1) got out to a big lead again and held the Lady Jaguars to single digits scoring-wise in each corner. Halfway through the first quarter, West held only a 3-2 lead. Two turnovers led to four points on put-backs by junior Jazzlin Brown. Westmoore (14-8, 9-5) answered with two turnover-fueled fast break buckets Blythe Crawley to pull back within one at 7-6.
A Shamar Bert 3-pointer started an 11-0 run to end the first quarter. From there, the rout was on. The only bright spot for Westmoore was a buzzer-beating 3-pointer just before halftime by Nicolette Langhans.
Sophomores Da’Nae Jefferson and and Kiana Gray each scored 14 points while junior Jazzlin Brown added 13 points. Nine players scored for West in the win.
“We finally put together four quarters,” Putnam City West coach Ja’Ron Jefferson said via text. “Defensively we continue to get better! Offensively we’re finding a rhythm at the right time going into playoffs!”
UP NEXT: West, who also ran away with the Class 6A District 2 title, will play the eighth-place team in District 1, Capitol Hill, who finished the regular season at 1-17. The regional matchup will be Tuesday (Feb. 20).
