WARR ACRES – Putnam City led after one half, but strong rebounding and 18 points from Union senior Aaliyah Smith was enough to spoil the Lady Pirates senior night, 55-41, in a Class 6A District 3 game Friday (Feb. 9).
Putnam City (8-14, 3-8 in district play) led by one after a quarter (12-11) and again at halftime (21-20). Union (13-8, 8-5) pulled away in the second half, especially the fourth quarter where they outscored PC, 15-6.
Behind Smith, juniors Brooke Bettis each and JaMiya Woodard added 10 points. The Lady Redhawks controlled the offensive glass, giving them several second-chance opportunities at points.
The Lady Pirates had three players in double-figures with junior Destinee Hunt scoring 11, senior Jasmeen Lee added 10 points as did junior Kayla Hill.
Union avenged a 54-53 loss in Tulsa on Jan. 9 to Putnam City where Hill sank the winning bucket.
With the loss the Lady Pirates’ losing streak stretched to five games.
UP NEXT: Putnam City finishes the regular season Tuesday (Feb. 13) at Enid against the Pacers. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
