ANADARKO -Top-ranked Bethany’s second game with No. 6 Anadarko was a bigger rout than the first game between the two teams as the Lady Bronchos rolled, 84-35, Friday (Feb. 2) in a Class 4A and Western Conference matchup.
Bethany (16-4) held another opponent to single-digits in the first quarter, sprinting out to a big lead.
Bethany coach Eric Sailer said he knew Anadarko (17-5) would make adjustments for the teams’ second meeting.
“I told the girls to be prepared for whatever they might throw at us. They came out in a box and one,” Sailer said via text. “They tried to take away Zya (Vann) by face guarding her. I was proud of the girls for not freaking out. They stayed calm and began to take apart their zone.”
Vann, the senior and Oklahoma commit scored 20 points with three treys. Junior (and fellow Oklahoma commit) scored a game-high 23 points in the win. Junior Kayten Donley added 16 points.
“We are very hard to defend when we share the ball. That is exactly what we did,” Sailer said. “We also frustrated them with full court pressure on defense.”
“This was a great win for us against the number 6 team in the state.”
Since Bethany’s last win over Anadarko Jan. 20 in the finals of the Heart of Oklahoma Basketball Tournament in Purcell (a 64-32 win), the Lady Bronchos have averaged 87.25 points a game while holding opponents to 34.50 points a contest.
