BETHANY – Keziah Lofton scored 35 points as Bethany routed Cache, 97-33, Tuesday (Jan. 30) in a Western Conference contest.
The Lady Bronchos’ big night started early as they jumped out to a 38-7 lead after one quarter. Bethany (15-4) shot 71 percent from the field in that quarter alone while grabbing 11 steals on defense.
For the game, Lofton was 15-of-22 from the field. The junior hit 4-of-8 from the 3-point line. On defense, she collected six steals. Her big point total came in just 19:12 of playing time as she sat out the fourth quarter.
“Keziah let the game come to her. Most every shot she attempted was a quality look,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “She was shooting the 3 very well. She had a nice rhythm.”
Lofton’s big night put her in lofty company. The school record for points in a game belongs to Lauryn Scalice, who scored 42 points in a 66-62 overtime win over Casady on Dec. 20, 2019. A four-time All-Western Conference honoree, Scalice scored over 1,000 points in her Bethany career. She is now a sophomore guard at Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant.
Besides Lofton, the Lady Bronchos had four other players in double-figures. Senior Zya Vann had 16 points and six steals. Senior Avery Marchino added 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Junior Talia Vann scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Junior Kayten Donley added 10 points on 4-of-8 from the field. Donley also had five rebounds, five rebounds and a block.
“I thought as a team we really shared the ball well tonight,” Sailer said.” All of our starters scored double digits.
Defensively, the Lady Bronchos had 21 steals in the game.
“I thought our defense was on point, which led to several steals and lay up opportunities,” Sailer said. “With a scoring duo that we have with Zya (Vann) and Keziah (Lofton), either one of them have the potential to score big.”
Bethany, top-ranked in Class 4A, is averaging 74 points a game over the last 11 contests since the new year began. The average is even higher (88 points) over the last three contests.
UP NEXT: Bethany travels to Class 4A No. 2 Anadarko Friday (Feb. 2). It’s a rematch between the two teams who met in the championship game of the Heart of Oklahoma Basketball tournament in Purcell Jan. 20. The Lady Bronchos won that matchup, 64-32.
“We are excited to get a chance to play Anadarko again on Friday at their place,” Sailer said. “We feel like we are playing well on both ends of the floor!!!”
Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
