PURCELL – Bethany senior Zya Vann poured in 27 points as the Lady Bronchos routed Elgin, 67-22, in the semifinals of the Heart of Oklahoma Basketball Tournament Friday (Jan. 19).
Vann, the 5-foot-10 forward and Oklahoma commit, hit three treys in the win, scoring all but four of her points in the second and third quarters.
The Bethany defense, already leading by 14 at the end of the first quarter, held the Lady Owls to only one point in the second quarter and the rout was on.
“We defended at a high level as a group today,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “Elgin does such a good job of pounding the ball into the post! As a unit we made it hard on them.”
Junior forward Kayten Donley added 14 points with two 3-pointers.
UP NEXT: The Lady Bronchos (11-4) meet Anadarko for the tournament title. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Saturday.
