OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City West routed Lawton Eisenhower, 102-40, Tuesday (Dec. 19) and gained a big Class 6A District 2 win in the process.
Coming into the game, the Patriots (5-4, 4-1) were tied in the standings with Lawton and Westmoore at 3-1. The Wolverines beat West on Dec. 12.
Kaidon Rayfield scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked eight shots and had two steals, according to CBS Sports/247 Sports’ James Jackson. Sophomore Nate Muriithi added 14 Points with five rebounds and three steals.
The Patriots host the “Fourth Annual Sick of Sickle Cell Showcase” Dec. 22-23. West meets Millwood, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, Saturday at 7 p.m.
Piedmont 60, Putnam City North 58
PIEDMONT – Putnam City North guard Anthony Leonard’s layup at the buzzer went over the basket and the Panthers lost a Class 6A District 1 matchup, 60-58, Tuesday (Dec. 19).
The loss dropped North 4-5 and 1-4 in district play. Piedmont improved to 8-1 and 5-1 in district play, just behind Edmond North, the only that’s beaten the Wildcats.
The Panthers will meet Southmoore Dec. 28 in the Mustang Holiday Tournament.
Owasso 55, Putnam City 29
WARR ACRES – The Pirates were no match for the top team in Class 6A District 3, dropping a 55-29 decision Tuesday (Dec. 19).
Putnam City (3-5, 2-3) led early in the first quarter, stifling the Owasso offense, but after the teams traded turnovers, the Rams got going. A 13-6 deficit after one quarter ballooned to 29-9 by halftime. PC only manage three points in the second quarter.
The Pirate offense stayed cold in third quarter until junior Kelton Locke hit a jumper with 1:31 left in the quarter.
Senior Ben Thompson led Putnam City with six points (including a 3-pointer early in the game). Sophomore Jaden Perry added five points as did Locke.
Three Rams scored in double figures including sophomore Boden Williams (15 points), fellow sophomore Jalen Montonati (12 points) and junior Jax Kerr (11 points).
Owasso improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district play.
The Pirates host the Putnam City Invitational Jan. 4-6.
